Lightening the Lives of Others
My name is Wafaa, and I am a 30-year-old divorced woman with the responsibility of two children and I live in the Telkief district of Nineveh Governorate.
Being the sole provider for a family is not an easy task. Therefore, I made it my mission to search for job opportunities until I came across a Candles Making Training program offered by WRO in Telkief. During the training, I learned how to make scented candles in various colors and shapes. Furthermore, I gained essential business skills in how to market and sell my products, thanks to the additional training WRO provided.
This training provided a glimmer of hope for me to start my own small business and meet the needs of my children. I now have a small shop inside my house where I sell the candles that I make along with other cosmetic items. I created social media pages on Instagram and Facebook to promote my products. Through this project, I was able to meet the needs of my family, especially with my children’s education expenses. I am always seeking to develop my business in the future.
As Eid Al-Fitr approaches, I can now see my children happy and joyful. I was able to provide them with their needs and buy new clothes for them from the income I earned through my work. I will always be the candle that lights up their lives.
I would like to express my gratitude to the Women’s Rehabilitation Organization for implementing the IMDAD project in partnership with Malteser International, funded by the German Cooperation. This project has served many people in the region.
